About Us
The story of The Inner Office, Ltd. can be summed up with the expression, "If life gives you lemons, you make lemonade." After working for 11 years as Director of Medical Records at a small osteopathic hospital, founder Bonnie Randolph Boatright began to feel the pinch of her current company being acquired and re-organized by a larger institution. Following 3 years of watching and assisting with staff downsizing, position consolidations, and employee layoffs, Bonnie decided that she had had enough.
As Bonnie began to explore new career options, a respected physician encouraged her to begin a medical transcription service. This idea, paired with Bonnie's long-standing desire to offer medical transcription education services, helped lay the foundation for The Inner Office, Ltd. With Janie Gerrick, a highly experienced transcriptionist from the hospital, as her founding partner, she moved forward with the idea.
After completing a business plan, hiring an accountant, and obtaining SBA financing, Bonnie opened the doors to The Inner Office, Ltd. in Cortland, Ohio. Starting with only 2 employees, 2 Gateway computers, and a central dictation system, the company now employs over 60 staff members in multiple facets of Health Information Management, including Medical Transcription, Medical Coding, Medical Billing, Cancer Registry, Trauma Registry, and Temporary Staffing. The Inner Office, Ltd. offers a catalog for many educational programs for people interested in changing or furthering their careers.
In 2000, Janie decided to sell her interest so that she could devote more time to her husband and two small children. Karen Ellwood and Pam Mason, both long time friends and business associates purchased her interest and became co-owners of The Inner Office, Ltd.
