2008 highlights at The Inner Office, Ltd., Cortland, include creating nine staff positions to accommodate growth in medical transcription work, more educational offerings and expense reductions, says Bonnie Boatright, co-owner.

The company frequently updates its dictation and transcription platforms and has implemented new methods for transferring completed transcription work to customers, including an auto-faxing function.

The Inner Office, Ltd. is also implementing a new process that will allow statistics to be regularly shared with clients, Boatright reports. And the company’s education department now offers coding and medical transcription classes online in addition to its onsite curriculum.

My business partner, Karen Ellwood, and I are upgrading our coding skills and plan to earn another certification in this area,” she adds. “Medicare has a new audit process and will be rolling it out in Ohio in 2009. We plan to be ready to consult with the physician practices.”

During 2008, document storage and retrieval grew 75%, she says, and the purchase of an additional high-speed scanner allowed staff to quickly and efficiently create images of documents for electronic storage and retrieval.

“We have worked diligently to reduce overhead and eliminate frivolous expenses to safely make it through this sluggish economy, “ Boatright remarks. “The more we diversify, the brighter our future looks.”
