BUSINESS JOURNAL 2011
Diversity has been the name of the new game this past year for our industry, and we expect it to continue through the next five years. As the medical transcription industry continues to transition from trained language specialists typing dictated documents to the same specialists editing documents that have been transcribed by software, The Inner Office, Ltd. has been readjusting staffing levels, purchasing new tools and equipment and retraining mindsets.
Diversity continues to be necessary as our health care providers rid their offices of paper charts and implement electronic health records. Electronic health records automate and streamline much of the workflow in health care settings and increase patient safety through evidence-based decision support, quality management, and outcomes reporting. Electronic health records also reduce unnecessary repeated medical tests, and expand patients’ access to their own personal health information. We have positioned ourselves to assist the providers by becoming proficient in many areas of the transition. By the end of 2011, five administrative staff members will have completed college level certification training for Electronic Health Record implementation.
In addition, with the implementation of the electronic health record, scanning of at least a portion of the hard copy medical record is necessary. Our Document Imaging department has been updated and staffing levels increased to meet the growing demand for scanning of health information.
Even with a very sluggish economy, we have continued to grow and expand our services. Our online classes for Medical Transcription and Medical Coding continue to grow and our Health Information Management curriculum includes a module on the electronic health record. Our Medical Billing classes still generate job ready medical billers. Our classes are small but we continue to have a 100% graduation rate and 100% success rate for all students who sit for the national coding exam. 2011 will conclude our 15th year in business and we look forward to many more years as an employer, entrepreneur and local industry leader in health information management.
